Ο Δρ Μιχαλίνος Ζεμπύλας σπούδασε στην Παιδαγωγική Ακαδημία Κύπρου και στα Πανεπιστήμια του Texas at Austin και του Illinois στην Urbana-Champaign. Εργάστηκε στο Michigan State University και στο Intercollege.
Είναι Καθηγητής Επιστημών της Αγωγής στο Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου και Honorary Professor, Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation στο Nelson Mandela University (Νότια Αφρική), καθώς και Επισκέπτης Καθηγητής στο Centre for Research in Educational and Social Inclusion του University of South Australia. Το 2023 του απονεμήθηκε η Έδρα Commonwealth of Learning (COL) Chair για την περίοδο 2023-2026.
Tα κυριότερα ερευνητικά ενδιαφέροντα του Καθηγητή Ζεμπύλα επικεντρώνονται στη συμβολή των συναισθημάτων σε θέματα θεωρίας και πολιτικής της παιδείας, καθώς και στην ανάπτυξη προγραμμάτων και τη διδασκαλία, ειδικότερα σε συνάρτηση με ζητήματα κοινωνικής δικαιοσύνης, διαπολιτισμικής αγωγής και εκπαίδευσης για την ειρήνη.
Έχει διευθύνει πολλά ερευνητικά και αναπτυξιακά έργα εκπαίδευσης με κρατική, ευρωπαϊκή, διεθνή και ιδιωτική χρηματοδότηση στην Κύπρο και στο εξωτερικό. Τα πρόσφατα ερευνητικά του έργα περιλαμβάνουν τα εξής: «Contested Narratives and Controversial Issues in Citizenship Education» (2022-2024), «Culturally Responsive Schooling» (2022-2024), «Developing a Web Based Learning Environment for Supporting Students’ Argumentation Skills and Reducing Prejudice» (2022- 2024), «Rising nationalisms, shifting geopolitics and the future of European higher education/research openness» (2023-2026).
Ο Δρ Ζεμπύλας δημοσιεύει εκτενώς σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά. Έχει συγγράψει δέκα (10) βιβλία και έχει επιμεληθεί δεκαπέντε (15) άλλα. Είναι μέλος πολλών συντακτικών επιτροπών επιστημονικών περιοδικών.
Από το 2020 συγκαταλέγεται στο 2% των κορυφαίων επιστημόνων στο πεδίο του διεθνώς με βάση βιβλιομετρικά δεδομένα και έρευνες ακαδημαϊκών του University of Stanford.

SHORT VITA
Dr. Michalinos Zembylas studied at the Pedagogical Academy of Cyprus, University of Texas at Austin and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the USA. He taught at Michigan State University (USA) and Intercollege (Cyprus).
Currently, he is Professor of Educational Theory and Curriculum Studies at the Open University of Cyprus. He is also Research Fellow at the Institute for Reconciliation and Social Justice, University of the Free State (South Africa), Honorary Professor at the Chair-Centre for Research in Higher Education Transformation of the Nelson Mandela University (South Africa), and Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Research in Educational and Social Inclusion, of the University of South Australia. His research interests are in the areas of educational philosophy and curriculum theory, and his work focuses on exploring the role of emotion and affect in curriculum and pedagogy. He is particularly interested in how affective politics intersect with issues of social justice pedagogies, intercultural and peace education, and human rights education. He coordinated numerous research and development projects that were funded by public and private funds in Cyprus and internationally.
He publishes widely in renowned scientific journals. He published ten (10) books and edited fifteen (15) others. He is also member in editorial boards and reviewer in peer reviewed journals.
Since 2020, he is ranked among the 2% of the top highly cited scientists in the world in his respective scientific fields based on bibliometric data in a research conducted by academics of the Stanford University.
On 2023, he was appointed a Commonwealth of Learning Chair for the period 2023-2026.
