ΠΠΑ523: Cultural Law and Law of Intellectual Property

The Module ΠΠΑ523, "Cultural Law and Law of Intellectual Property", includes two thematic sub-units, the Law of Culture (Cultural Law) and the Intellectual Property Law (Law of Literary and Artistic Property).

The Law of Culture covers the legal status of monuments, as well as the research, protection, exhibition and use of monuments. The Module also examines the Law of Museums and the legal status of protection of cultural goods, with an emphasis on measures to tackle crimes of the Law of Culture. Particularly focus is given to the legal measures against the illicit trafficking in cultural goods, with emphasis on Cyprus and Greece.

The Intellectual Property Law examines the concept of intellectual property, intellectual property rights, especially author copyright, and the special parameters concerning IT and Creative Commons licenses (CC).

The Module focuses in particular on:

• The constitutional status of culture and, in particular, the fundamental rights to culture (freedom of art as a reason, expression and ideas).
• The research, protection, exhibition and use of monuments with emphasis on museums.
• The illicit trafficking of cultural goods (smuggling of antiquities) with emphasis on Cyprus and Greece.
• The legal protection of cultural goods with emphasis on the fight against antiquities trafficking.
• The concept of intellectual property.
• Author copyright and related rights.
• Specific arrangements for IT applications (protection of computer programmes and databases), including the issue of the legal status of artificial intelligence systems (in particular intelligent robots).
• On Creative Commons licenses (CC).
